Cover design
2018
Devotions is collaborative piece between artist and author. As a design student I was paired with another student taking a poetry class. The students had each compiled their poems to be made into a chapbook. The designers job was to read the book and meet with the poets. I had to interview my poet without ever talking about aesthetics of the cover, the content of her work, or the general imagery she liked. I was limited to just asking questions about them and their work. From there I began turning over and over what imagery would best represent my poet and her work. I settled on feminine/romantic imagery and began to design the cover.
Poetry - Kat McCollum
Design - Taylor Hornedo

During the design process, I had to consider my classmates covers as well. As all of the chapbooks would be featured in a local poetry night in Austin, TX, So we had to settle on a rule, that our font would be the same. The covers were to be printed with a RisoGraph printer, so I had to also take into account that I was limited by colors. The following is the series of iterations I went through before settling on the final one.
